Blizzard attended Gamescom in Germany and during the convention the Overwatch team introduced the new season 2 content, they also unveiled the new animated short. The new animated short was the origin story for Bastion. It was very inspirational and a lot of people expressed how moved they were about the story of the beloved hero robot. I too was inspired, so I decided to continue my pastel work series and create a piece. The part of the animated short that got my choked up was where Bastion is enraged and he eye/light is red with anger. His little bird friend lands on him and places a twig in-front of him. Bastion has a moment of reflection and choice, he chooses the light/good side and his eye turns blue. He then follows his bird friend back into the forest, it is very touching.
Although my pastel work is based on the animated short, I wanted to portray the evil/dark side to the left of his gun and then the goodness/light surrounding the twig.
